Ryan McNeilly Smith is a planner and urban designer working across research and practice in Queensland. As a PhD candidate with the Bioclimatic and Sociotechnical Cities Lab and Centre for Human Factors and Sociotechnical Systems at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Ryan is investigating bioclimatic urban design and the application of urban climate simulations to inform urban policy. His research has a real-world focus on the development of urban planning and design policy solutions to mitigate urban and extreme heat in Queensland. In addition to his research role, Ryan also holds a position with Meridian Urban, an industry leading planning, resilience and adaptation advisory firm.
