Gender outcomes championed in new partnership

Putting gender squarely at the centre of natural hazards research, Gender and Disaster Australia recently joined Natural Hazard Research Australia’s (the Centre) national knowledge network as a supporting Participant.

This partnership builds on a strong existing relationship that reflects a shared vision from both organisations for a safer, more resilient Australia for all community members, strengthening community resilience and safety through evidence-based, end-user driven research.

Centre CEO Andrew Gissing welcomed Gender and Disaster Australia as the newest member of the Centre’s Participant network of 33 organisations in emergency response, resilience and disaster risk reduction around Australia.

“This partnership connects Gender and Disaster Australia directly to the Centre’s national research program focused on natural hazard resilience and disaster risk reduction — work that will benefit from a gendered lens,” Mr Gissing said.

Through this agreement, Gender and Disaster Australia secures a seat at the table — contributing expertise, accessing emerging research and helping shape the national conversation about how natural hazards are prepared for, responded to and recovered from.

“We are delighted to be joining the Centre as a supporting partner and we look forward to strengthening gendered perspectives throughout the research produced through the Centre,” said Dr Margaret Moreton, CEO, Gender and Disaster Australia.

"I’m proud that Gender and Disaster Australia continues to lead, not just in advocating for more gender-informed research and outcomes, but in making sure this research makes a difference to the safety and wellbeing of women, men and LGBTIQA+ people before, during and after disasters.”
