A new Queensland home has been established for disaster and natural hazards research, with Natural Hazards Research Australia’s Queensland Node moving to the Australian Red Cross offices in Brisbane.
Natural Hazards Research Australia CEO Andrew Gissing believes that the co-location with Australian Red Cross will ensure that the Centre maintains its strong industry links and continues to build networks.
“The Red Cross office provides a central location in Brisbane which will be a fantastic hub for our work in Queensland. By sharing space with such a prominent organisation like Australian Red Cross, our networks and partnerships will benefit, not just in Queensland, but nationally too. Ultimately this helps our research be useful, useable and used,” Andrew said.
Australian Red Cross Queensland Director Collin Sivalingum welcomed the move as a significant step forward for disaster resilience.
“This co-location builds on our longstanding partnership with NHRA and enables us to support each other in real-time when disasters occur. NHRA’s cutting-edge research underpins our humanitarian response, and together, we’re driving safer and more effective solutions for communities across Australia,” Collin said.
Natural Hazards Research Australia thanks the Queensland Police Service for hosting the Queensland Node for the last three years.
